Back story: Historic Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas, and the home of an iconic stage, where so many GOATs and upcoming musicians have come to play their music. The story goes that in 1998, after New Braunfels experienced a tragic and horrific flood, Willie Nelson came to Gruene Hall to perform for a fundraiser. The musicians had to enter from the front, as there was no other entrance or exit. Willie felt uncomfortable at the thought of fighting his way through a huge crowd to get to the stage, so one of the side windows (on the right of the building, near the men's restrooms) was cut out, making it into a short "door", and the "Willie Door" was born! Many musicians see this entrance as a rite of passage today.
